Charlie Hunter / Scott Amendola
Listening to the non-limited master tonight for the first time and it is literally impossible to work and listen at the same time. It's so compelling I keep having to get between the speakers - and that's a bit like falling into a black hole - next thing you know the whole album is over and you're bummed that it had to end.
I really can't imagine this tape not being at the top of most peoples demo list. The drumming on this is so tastefully done it or perhaps exquisitely done would be a better description... that it makes me want to get my own kit back out after 17 years. Charlie would have been a dream to jam with back when I used to play. If I could have ever been so lucky.
This is a really transparent recording with lots of horizontal headroom. It's the sound that you buy a master tape to hear!
Boy this is going to ben a fun ride!

OK, after listening to several masters this evening, Roon keeps going back to streaming stuff and it's really alarming how much everything is turned up. I mean coming from the perspective of a non-limited master. Those are not turned down, the streaming crap is turned up. SO what does it sound like to jump from ultra transparent super clean liquidity to a jacked up by 8 or more dB stream from the internet? Well, the best way I can describe it is by saying how it feels... it feels like someone took some cold wet hotdogs and tried to cram them into each of your ears.
Going back and forth makes you feel like what the streaming industry is doing to the music is criminal, because it is. The sound difference isn't small.
After listening to this non-limited recording on my server, when it was finished Roon grabbed some more music off of Qobuz that was similar, and of course it was 6 to 10 dB louder, felt like about 7 ave. Also the sound was not as clear, not as tight, not as clean, no where near as compelling. Listening to the actual non-limited masters on a holy grail DAC is really had to put into words, but I will say that even without the added yumminess of tape or vinyl it is extraordinary. I can hardly wait to hear the 1st generation analogue master of this !!! Each tape that is sold will be a 1st generation analogue master. A single glorious analog pass that pushes the musicality over the top. It's baked right in.
